0Rodri opted for Barcelona instead of Real Madrid, yet Jose Mourinho insists that the Spanish giants need not feel remorse and have full confidence in their current midfield lineup.
Rodri was once regarded as a top target for Real Madrid.but his decision to join Barcelona caused the deal to fall through. Jose Mourinho now does not consider it a significant loss.
According to an interview with El Chiringuito, Mourinho revealed that he personally spoke with Rodri twice during Real Madrid's pursuit of the midfielder. The Spanish royal club even made a very attractive offer, but Rodri's hesitation ultimately caused the deal to fall through.
"I spoke with him twice and Real Madrid made a very good offer. Rodri had doubts and his hesitation also made me think," Mourinho shared.
Although he couldn't bring Rodri to the Santiago Bernabéu, Mourinho did not criticize the Spanish player. On the contrary, he praised the way Rodri handled the situation and believed that the midfielder always showed respect for Real Madrid.
According to Mourinho, the problem is that a player wearing the Real Madrid shirt needs to show decisiveness as soon as the club reaches out. He believes that the level and allure of Los Blancos are sufficient that a top target should not need to spend too much time thinking.
Rodri ultimately chose Barcelona, thus ending Real Madrid's hopes in the highly anticipated deal. However, Mourinho insists that the club has no reason to regret.
After Toni Kroos and Luka Modric departed one after another, many believed that Real Madrid needed a world-class midfielder to control and dictate the game. Rodri was thus considered the ideal solution to fill the gap.
Mourinho has a completely different perspective. The Portuguese coach trusts the current midfielders and believes that the Real Madrid squad is capable of competing in the new season. "I don't need Rodri. We are not short of players. The market is still open and there could be more signings, but if you ask me whether the plan is finished, the answer is yes. I really like this squad."
Although Rodri chose Barcelona, Mourinho still sent his best wishes to the Spanish midfielder, but did not forget to affirm that Real Madrid will continue on its own path.
