Chelsea is on the brink of a significant shake-up at the executive level, with Todd Boehly and Mark Walter said to be mulling a stake sale, allowing Clearlake Capital to acquire the entire club.

Chelsea continues to face top-level instability as Todd Boehly and Mark Walter are reportedly considering selling their shares, opening the possibility for Clearlake Capital to gain full control of the club.

According to British media, Boehly and Walter are looking into transferring their stakes in Chelsea to Clearlake Capital. If the deal goes through, the London club's value could be set at up to $9.5 billion, and Clearlake would become the sole owner.

Currently, Boehly, Walter, and Hansjörg Wyss each own about 12.8% of Chelsea shares. Although Boehly serves as Chairman and is the most prominent face among the ownership group, decision-making power at Stamford Bridge essentially rests with Clearlake Capital, with Behdad Eghbali and José Feliciano playing key roles.

Boehly is the most prominent representative of the investment group that bought Chelsea from Roman Abramovich in 2022. However, his tenure as Chairman is expected to end after this season.

According to British media, internal disagreements within Chelsea's management, which have surfaced since 2024, have led the parties to consider buying each other's shares. One of the contentious issues is the future of Stamford Bridge, particularly regarding renovation or relocation to a new site.

If the sale is successful, Boehly and Walter could each receive about $1.2 billion each, thereby closing a notable chapter in Chelsea's ownership journey. This move is particularly noteworthy for Walter as he just witnessed the sale of the Los Angeles Lakers at a record price of $17.6 billion.

Meanwhile, the upheaval at the top has not stopped Chelsea from being active in the transfer market. After a season finishing 10th in the Premier League, the club appointed Xabi Alonso as head coach with the ambition of rebuilding the squad.

Chelsea is still seeking stability after four turbulent years under American ownership. Despite winning the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, the club has constantly changed coaches and has not truly become a contender for the Premier League title.

On the other hand, Pedro Neto could also leave Stamford Bridge. Al Hilal is reportedly interested in the Portuguese winger, but Chelsea is said to only consider selling if they receive around $191 million.
