In a pre-season friendly held on August 16 Beijing time, Brentford, the Premier League dark horse, thrashed Bundesliga power Eintracht Frankfurt 7-0 at home, providing a perfect conclusion to their final pre-season fixture.

Brentford finished 9th in the Premier League last season, while Frankfurt were 8th in the Bundesliga. Since this was the last warm-up game before the Premier League started, Brentford deployed their strongest possible lineup.

Just 2 minutes into the match, German international Schade gave Brentford the lead. In the 12th minute, Sangaré extended the lead. In the 40th minute, Brazilian international Igor Thiago added another goal, making it 3-0 at half-time.

After the break, Brentford continued to dominate. In the 52nd minute, Wata scored; in the 57th, Lewis-Porter made it 5-0. In the 68th minute, Igor Thiago completed his brace, and two minutes later Schade also scored his second goal, sealing the final score at 7-0.

In the match, Schade, the 24-year-old who was omitted from the German national team's World Cup squad, recorded 2 goals and 2 assists. Meanwhile, Brazilian international Igor Thiago, valued at €65 million, contributed 2 goals and 1 assist. Sangaré, Wata, and Lewis-Porter each scored one goal.

Notably, another Premier League side, Bournemouth, had also thrashed Italian Serie A club Genoa 10-1 in a pre-season friendly, once again demonstrating the considerable strength of mid-table Premier League teams.

Brentford will face Tottenham Hotspur in their first match of the new Premier League season on August 22.
