Supercomputer predicts Arsenal vs Man City result: Gunners have the edge

(Community Shield prediction) - Opta's supercomputer gives Arsenal the upper hand over Man City in the Community Shield showdown, even as both sides face significant adjustments before the new campaign.

Opta supercomputer favors Arsenal

Arsenal and Man City will face off in Cardiff for the Community Shield, kicking off the new season. This is also the first time in 10 years that Man City enters this match without Pep Guardiola on the coaching bench.

Enzo Maresca has been chosen to replace Guardiola and will make his official debut as Man City's head coach. The Italian manager faces a major challenge as he takes on Arsenal's Mikel Arteta, a team that Opta rates as the top contender for the 2026/27 Premier League title.

According to Opta's supercomputer simulations, Arsenal has a 44.8% chance of winning within 90 minutes. Man City follows with 29.7%, while the probability of a draw is 25.5%.

This means if the match remains undecided after regular time, the two teams will settle the title on penalties.

Arsenal have multiple advantages

Arteta boasts an impressive record in the Community Shield. The former Spanish midfielder won the tournament twice as a player and has continued his success as a manager, winning both times he led Arsenal in 2020 and 2023.

Arsenal also have a strong run of form, going eight consecutive matches unbeaten across all competitions, including six wins. Arteta's squad has been significantly strengthened with Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis, and Piero Hincapie.

Head-to-head history in the Community Shield also favors the Gunners. Arsenal have won all three previous encounters with Man City in this competition: a 4-0 victory in 1934, a 3-0 win in 2014, and a penalty shootout triumph in 2023 after a 1-1 draw.

Arsenal currently have 17 Community Shield titles Community Shield, trailing only Manchester United. They have also won all five of their most recent appearances in this title match.

Man City still a formidable opponent

Despite being rated lower by Opta, Man City have reasons to be confident. The team lost only one of their last 12 matches last season, and they defeated Arsenal twice during the 2025/26 campaign.

Man City beat Arsenal 2-0 in the EFL Cup final before overcoming them 2-1 in the Premier League. Nico O'Reilly scored a brace in the cup final, while Erling Haaland netted the decisive goal in the clash at the Etihad.

However, Haaland's availability remains a question mark as the Norwegian striker has not played in the preseason after returning from the World Cup.

With these factors in mind, Opta leans towards Arsenal in the season opener. The Gunners have a 44.8% chance of winning in 90 minutes, compared to Man City's 29.7%, but this gap is not large enough to rule out Maresca pulling off a surprise in his debut match.
