0Bac Ninh officially recruited Pierre Lamothe, a Canadian-Vietnamese midfielder who was previously called up to the Canada U20 squad and publicly stated his aspiration to play for the Vietnam national team.
Bac Ninh Club officially announced the signing of Canadian-Vietnamese midfielder Pierre Lamothe, adding a familiar face from V.League for the 2026/27 season. The deal attracts particular attention as the player born in 1997 has openly set his sights on the Vietnam national team jersey.
Lamothe was born on September 18, 1997, plays as a midfielder, and developed through the Montreal Impact youth system. In Canada, he wore the FC Montréal shirt before playing for HFX Wanderers and Pacific FC in the Canadian Premier League. Canada Soccer's records also note that Lamothe participated in the Canada U20 development camp in 2015.
A significant milestone in Lamothe's career came at HFX Wanderers. The midfielder made 48 appearances across all competitions and scored 3 goals in two seasons at Halifax, before moving to Pacific FC and then embarking on his journey to play in Vietnam.
In the 2023/24 season, Lamothe played for Quang Nam on loan. In January 2025, Hanoi FC signed a two-season contract with the overseas Vietnamese player. Notably, on the very day he was introduced by the capital club, Lamothe publicly expressed his ambition to get closer to the Vietnam national team.
According to Hanoi FC's official website, Lamothe shared: "I am very excited to wear the Hanoi FC shirt – a team with a rich tradition and great ambition in Vietnam. I will give my all to help the club achieve titles, while also developing myself to have the opportunity to wear the Vietnam national team jersey in the future."
After that, Hanoi FC transferred Lamothe to SHB Da Nang on loan. Having experienced various environments in V.League gives the 28-year-old midfielder an advantage in adaptability, a factor particularly crucial for Bac Ninh in their first season in Vietnam's top football league.
Bac Ninh secured their spot in V.League 2026/27 after defeating PVF-CAND 5-4 on penalties in the play-off match. Therefore, the arrival of a player with experience in both Canada and Vietnam shows that the club is urgently strengthening their midfield depth before the new season.
For Lamothe, joining Bac Ninh opens up another opportunity to find a stable role. If he can make an impression in the colors of the V.League newcomer, the dream of wearing the Vietnam national team jersey that he once publicly mentioned could once again become a focal point of attention.
