Thai fans are buzzing as Vietnam's largest stadium in the world gets a new name

The announcement that Vietnam's 135,000-seat stadium now bears the name VinFast - Trống Đồng has generated excited responses among Thai football fans.

On August 14, 2026, Vingroup unveiled the master plan for the Hung Vuong International Sports Complex in Hanoi's International Sports Urban Area. The centerpiece of the project is the VinFast - Trống Đồng stadium, a facility previously known as Trống Đồng or Lac Viet.

According to the published plan, the VinFast - Trống Đồng stadium covers approximately 73.3 hectares and is expected to hold up to 135,000 spectators. If completed on schedule, it will become the world's largest stadium in terms of capacity, surpassing many renowned sports venues today.

The news that Vietnam's massive stadium now has a new name quickly caught the attention of regional fans, particularly Thai supporters. Many expressed admiration for the scale, design, and Vietnam's ambition to host top-tier global sports events.

One Thai fan commented: "135,000 seats is truly an incredible number. If completed as designed, this will surely be a source of pride not only for Vietnam but for all of Southeast Asia".

Another enthusiastic account wrote: "I would love to come to Hanoi to watch Thailand play at this stadium. An AFF Cup final with over 100,000 spectators would definitely create an amazing atmosphere".

Designed to FIFA standards, VinFast - Trống Đồng integrates artificial intelligence and an automatic retractable roof system. The facility also includes a premium VVIP area for heads of state, international delegations, and special events.

The stadium is slated for completion in July 2027. Once operational, VinFast - Trống Đồng is expected to become a new symbol of Vietnamese sports, while significantly enhancing the nation's capacity to host international tournaments and world-class cultural and artistic programs.
