Southeast Asian fans react in unison as Vietnam gains a brand-new overseas Vietnamese star

The announcement of Nguyen Adou Legley Minh officially becoming a Vietnamese citizen rapidly drew the interest of Southeast Asian supporters, particularly at a time when the AFF Cup 2026 is reaching its critical stage.

Hanoi Police FC has confirmed that defender Nguyen Adou Legley Minh has completed the legal procedures and officially acquired Vietnamese citizenship. This information was revealed shortly after the police team defeated Adelaide United to secure a spot in the AFC Champions League Elite group stage.

"Right after securing the historic ticket to the AFC Champions League Elite group stage, Hanoi Police FC continues to receive another very meaningful piece of news for their journey ahead: Defender Nguyen Adou Legley Minh has officially completed the legal procedures and obtained Vietnamese citizenship," CAHN announced.

Adou Minh's good news instantly became a topic of discussion among fans in the region. On several Southeast Asian football forums, the majority of opinions suggested that Vietnam now has an additional experienced option for their defense. Indonesian fans paid special attention to the 28-year-old defender's training background in France and his consistent performance in the V.League.

An Indonesian fan commented: "Vietnam continues to add a player with a European football foundation. The competition within their squad will certainly grow stronger."

An account from Malaysia expressed: "Adou Minh is not particularly tall for a center-back, but he has proven his ability to read the game in the V.League. Vietnam will have another notable option in defense."

These reactions show that regional fans have a positive view of Adou Minh's potential but also remain cautious. Obtaining Vietnamese citizenship first allows the 1997-born player to be registered as a domestic player, thereby increasing the depth of CAHN's squad for the 2026/27 season.

In the most recent season, Adou Minh made 24 appearances across all competitions, playing 1,692 minutes, scoring two goals, and providing one assist. The defender born in Grenoble previously played for Grenoble, Annecy, and Racing Besançon before returning to Vietnam to play for Hong Linh Ha Tinh in August 2024. A year later, he moved to CAHN and gradually established his place in coach Alexandre Polking's squad.

However, Adou Minh cannot immediately join the Vietnam national team for the AFF Cup 2026 currently underway, as the registration list has already been finalized. Vietnamese citizenship also does not automatically guarantee a spot on the national team; the player still needs to fully meet FIFA's eligibility requirements and be selected by the coaching staff.

If he maintains consistent form in the CAHN jersey, Adou Minh could certainly be monitored by coach Kim Sang-sik for future training camps after the AFF Cup. The emergence of the French-born Vietnamese defender promises to add competition to Vietnam's national team defense for the goals in late 2026 and early 2027.
