Malaysia's head coach: "...this was precisely the factor that altered the course of the match"

The last fixture in Group F ended with a convincing 3-1 win for Vietnam's national team against Malaysia's national team at Thiên Trường Stadium.

Speaking after the match, coach Peter Cklamovski could not hide his disappointment. The Australian tactician believed that the difference in capitalizing on opportunities cost Malaysia dearly. Despite creating numerous dangerous situations, the visiting team failed to convert them into goals.

“In the first half, we responded very well after conceding a goal. The players created several clear chances. If we had capitalized, the score could have been 1-1 and the match would have taken a different direction,” he shared.

On the opposite side, the Vietnam National Team demonstrated remarkable efficiency. The attacking plays by Đỗ Duy Mạnh and Nguyễn Xuân Sơn allowed the home team to completely control the match situation. Without needing too many opportunities, Vietnam still knew how to punish the opponent's mistakes with precise finishing.

Meanwhile, Malaysia's sole goal came only from a penalty executed by Endrick dos Santos. This further highlighted the issue in the scoring department of the yellow-black team, as they lacked the necessary sharpness in decisive moments.

Coach Cklamovski candidly admitted: “Vietnam deserves praise for capitalizing on their chances very well. We had 4 or 5 clear opportunities but couldn't score. This was precisely the factor that changed the course of the match.” This defeat also extended Malaysia's streak of not winning on Vietnamese soil since 2014, a figure that shows their prolonged inferiority whenever they play as guests against this regional rival.

In contrast, the Vietnam National Team concluded the group stage with a perfect record by securing all maximum points, thereby officially earning their ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup as the top team of Group F. The all-win achievement not only confirms their strength but also demonstrates the stability and composure of the coach and his squad on their journey toward greater goals.
